GESINK WINS GC IN CALIFORNIA

Robert Gesink of the Netherlands cruised to victory in the Tour of California after finishing the eight and final stage in the middle of the pack. Gesink who shattered just eight months ago his leg in a fall grabbed the yellow jersey in Saturday’s penultimate stage in the Californian mountains and retained his lead of 46 seconds over American Dave Zabriskie.

RABOTTINI WINS DRAMATIC GIRO STAGE

Italian Matteo Rabottini of Farnese Vini won stage 15 of the Giro d'Italia atop the Piani dei Resinelli ahead of new race leader Joaquin Rodriguez of Spain.
Rabottini left the bunch after 18 kilometer and pretty much led the 169-kilometre long stage from Burso Arsizio to Piani dei Resinelli. In the last 500 metres of the final summit Katusha climber Rodriguez caught him but Rabottini found some new energy to pip Rodriguez in the final sprint.

GESINK WINS STAGE IN CALIFORNIA

Robert Gesink of the Netherlands won the seventh stage of the Tour of California, with a big chance he will claim the overall victory on Sunday. Gesink was too strong for his opponents after the 126 kilometres and mountain climb from Ontario to Mt Baldy. After starting the day in third place behind leader Zabriskie, he ended up leading by 46 seconds.

AMADOR STRIKES IN GIRO

Andrey Amador has won the 14th stage of Giro d’Italia. Movistar’s rider from Costa Rica outsprinted fellow escapees Jan Barta (NetApp) and Alessandro De Marchi (Androni Giocattoli). He took his first professional win of his career. The three were almost caught by Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda) but he finished 20 seconds down in fourth place.
